Mommin' Ain't Easy

Updated: Mar 6

“How do you find the time to decorate AND take care of mom duties?”

Tip #1

And the answer is…there’s a combination of actions I take. First, I start early. So, for example, Holiday decorations…I start decorating for Halloween the first or second week in September. I complete little projects during nap time…while the kids eat…and after the kiddos go to bed. When they’re father is off from work he will run interference a bit so I can work on my projects. If I attempted to do everything in one sitting, it would never get done because I would be constantly interrupted with trivial tasks…like feeding the kids :P… I kid.

Starting early and chipping away at it as the days go by has helped me a ton.

Tip #2

PLEASE…I beg of you…utilize your village….I know, I know momma…you don’t have to say it. I am the same exact way…I refuse to ask for help…even when offered I’m reluctant to take it. I have a hard time allowing people to take care of “MY RESPONSIBILITIES” (ie: MY KIDS). Take it from a person that finds it difficult to accept help….TAKE THE HELP! If the grandparents…your siblings…in laws…best friends and etc. don’t mind spending time with the children while you tick away at your never ending “To Do” list ACCEPT THE HELP…I promise you this doesn’t make you a bad mom <3

Tip #3

I don’t know about anyone else buuuttt I am a bit of a neat freak. With that…I am always cleaning. I can’t other things done because I am constantly cleaning up. By the time I finish a full day at work… make sure the people I love…feel loved…are fed, bathed, and happy…I clean…and then it’s time for bed. Cleaning alone consumes a lot of my time and making sure the house is clean makes me personally feel like I’m being a good mom and wife.

With that being said..hiring a cleaning service biweekly has been a great help to me. On the day our cleaning lady cleans the whole house…I’m not cleaning the whole house, so this frees up time for me to do other tasks that were on my “to-do” list. Even doing this once a month is a great help.

I know everyone can’t afford a cleaning service and in the area I live a one time 6-8 hour cleaning session was $300 because they were starting from scratch. After the initial cleaning the payments dropped to $110 per visit because it was “maintenance”. Pricing will also vary due to home size and etc. so keep that in mind. To save your coins I would say go on Groupon. I logged on 2 minutes ago and saw $300 6 hour sessions for $175. Also, don’t bother with a 6 or 8 hour session. Do a 2-hour session and call it a day. The idea here is to get a couple hours back for yourself and not to cleaning 😊

Tip #4

Involve those busy bodies in the decorating process. Invite them to help…you won’t have to stop to get them out of trouble because they will be with you…helping. Easier said than done…I know. I have a three-year-old and an 11-month-old so in practice this doesn’t work great for me but if you have kiddos that are a little older, include them.

Give yourself some grace momma. Do what you can and leave the rest. Let's not kill ourselves to have this unattainable, Pinterest worthy home. YOU are worthy because you're momma.
